John Louis Fury, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully with his sons at his side on Friday, November 23, 2018. Son of the late Frank J. Fury and Nicolina Montalbano. Beloved husband of the late Mathilda Brignaudy Fury. Brother to the late Jeanne F. Cozzo (the late Joseph), the late Philip Fury (the late Jeanne), the late Frank J. Fury, Jr. (the late Alice), and the late Rosalie F. Verges (the late William). Father of John L. Fury, Jr. (Cindi) and Manuel J. Fury (Tracy). He is also survived by his grandchildren John L. Fury, III "Trey" (Ashley), Thad Fury, William P. Fury, Nicole F. Braud (Brad), Katherine C. Fury, one great granddaughter Colette C. Fury, his sister-in-law, Clarice B. Matranga (Joseph, Jr.) and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. 

John was an owner of Fury's Restaurant as well as a founding owner of The Bounty Restaurant at West End. He was a native New Orleanian, and attended St. Anthony of Padua before graduating from S.J. Peters High School, where he was a member of the championship baseball team of 1948. 

John proudly served his country during the Korean War with the United States Marine Corps, and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. 

He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 4640 Canal St, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will be held prior to Mass from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery No.1. In lieu of flowers, please offer masses in John's name, or make donations to the Wounded Warrior ProjectSt. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to a charity of your choice.
