Samuel Kleindorf

US ARMY

July 2nd, 1931-January 5th, 2023

Samuel Nathan (Tickie) Kleindorf passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 5th, 2023 at the age of 92. Born July 2nd, 1931, Sam was a proud American. He was a native New Orleanian and grew up in the French Quarter on Dauphine St. At age 19 he volunteered for the U.S. Army and joined the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, the Rangers-a special, elite unit of the army. Sam took part in a rescue operation during the Geoje Prison Camp Uprising. There were 142-men in his Airborne Ranger Unit, and as of September 2020 Sam was the last surviving member. Sam felt blessed coming home from the war, as his brother-in-law, Samuel Robertson, was killed at age 17 in the Korean War.

Back in the states in 1953, Sam settled in New Orleans, married his sweetheart, Bertha, and started his family. Sam worked in the hospitality industry for years at the Landmark Hotel. His best times were working with longtime friend, Leslie Bonano, promoting boxing events.

Sam is preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Robertson, and son Gilbert. Also, preceded in death are his parents Simon and Alice Bradberry, and his siblings, Albert Thiery, Melrose T. Ducatel, Jake Kleindorf, Dora K. Lamouranne, and Josephine McMurray. Sam will be forever missed by his children, Debbie, David (Connie), and Mark. He adored his grandchildren, Arthur, Nathan, Rachel and Rebekah, along with his six great-grandchildren. He was loved by his extended family and friends. A special thanks to Sun Kim with the Korean War Veterans Association. Family and friends are welcome to join a celebration of his life to take place January 20th, 2:00-5:00 p.m.
