Clyde Williams Jr.

US ARMY

Clyde Williams Jr. joined the Army at the age of 17 (mother had to give written permission), in September 1949.

First trip was to Japan and when the Korean War began, June 1950, his whole division was shipped to South Korea.

He was injured in June 1950 (earned Purple Heart) and came down with malaria. He was put in a Danish hospital ship

off the coast of South Korea and was there two weeks. He was released and sent back to his last post with his unit.

Clyde was at Yalu river December 1950. It was frozen over at -40 degrees, and the US soldiers were wearing gear left

over from WWII (little to no insulation).  In November 1951, his tour was over, and he was shipped back to the U.S.

He was discharged from the Army December 1952.
