Bernard John Knese

MAY 14, 1924 – FEBRUARY 16, 2015

Bernard “Barney” “Pipe” J. Knese went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 16, 2015. He was 90 years old. Beloved husband of 60 years to Alma Ploue Knese. Loving father of Julie K. Johnson (husband: David Kramer), and the late Terry Stephen Knese. Adoring Poppy of Shelby and Carly Johnson, and great Poppy of Carson Oreman. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. 

Bernard served in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II and the Korean War as a radioman/navigator on a C-47 aircraft. During World War II he flew on D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. 

He was awarded eight Bronze Stars and a Unit Citation for his service. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 4317 Richland Ave. in Metairie, on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 1:00PM. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00AM. A rosary will be held at 12:30PM.
