Hillman P. Rabalais
RABALAIS Hillman Paul (Hack) Rabalais passed away on Friday, August 7, 2009 in Marksville, LA. He was 80 years old. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irma Guillot Rabalais and five children, Glenda Alphonso (Kent) of Slidell, LA; Eric Rabalais (Doreen) of Slidell, LA; Donna Price (Billy) of Slidell, LA; Phillip Rabalais (Nancy) of Orange, CA; Scott Rabalais (Kendra) of Lutherville, MD. He also has 11 grandchildren: Jennifer Rabalais (Christian Berkes), Derek Rabalais, Carly Alphonso, Jordon Alphonso, Taylor Alphonso, Alexander Price, Catherine Rabalais, Theresa Rabalais, John Rabalais, Logan Rabalais, Shawn Rabalais and two step grandchildren: Billy Price III and Christopher Price and a great-grandchild: Isaac Berkes. He was preceded in death by his father Ludger (Rhode) Rabalais and his mother Eva Dufour and by his sister Erline Plauche and brothers Riley, John Hubert, and Elmo. Still celebrating his life are his sister Melda Spedale and brother Lawrence Rabalais Sr, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Hillman was a resident of Arabi, LA for over 48 years. After Hurricane Katrina, he moved to Moreauville, LA where he resided for the past four years. Hillman was an active member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Arabi before moving to Moreauville. He received the St. Louis Medal in 1985. He was also a fourth degree Knight of Colombus. At the time of his death, he was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Moreauville, LA. Hillman enjoyed gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family and friends.
Hillman served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1953. In the Korean War, he was in nine major battles, wounded three times and was a prisoner of war of the Chinese Communist Army for 28 months. He had a great love for God and his country. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Tuesday, August 11th, 2009 from 10:00AM - 1:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 1:00PM. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
