HAMPTON Shelby Paul Hampton passed away peacefully at his home in Metairie, Louisiana on Wednesday, February 28, 2007. Survived by his beloved wife, Jenny Sortino Hampton; sons: David and Shelby Jr.; daughter, Susan H. Menasco; grandsons: David, Christopher and Shelby III; granddaughter, Kristine Menasco. Father-in-law of John Menasco, Ileana and Eileen Hampton, son of Howard and Thelma Appel Hampton, brothers: Howard, Jr. and Noel P. Hampton; sisters: Jacqueline H. Dubos, Hope H. Berthelot and Joan H. Ducote; brother of the late Weston, Calvin and Kenneth Hampton. 1948 graduate of Warren Easton High School where he was member of the Lunch Bunch group, Loyola University graduate with degrees in Psychology and Theology. After being paralyzed by a major stroke he graduated from the first class of LSU Dept of Agriculture in Master Gardening. Volunteered at City Park, Delgado Community College and AARP groups. Retired from the Aetna Life and Casualty as supervisor of various departments, elected Chairman of the Nationwide Inter-Company Arbitration Committee, New Orleans Division of the American Insurance Association, The New Orleans Association of Life Underwriters Member of the Steering Committee of the Friends of St. Michaels, STRIVE Center, the Sophie Gumbel Guild, Men's Club of Cabrini High School and Jesuit High School wrestling team, the Poor Clare Monastery, minister of the Eucharist, instructor of the RCIA program with the Archdiocese. Mr. Hampton was Korean War Marine Corps veteran, First Battalion, First Marine Division, fought at Hagaru Re, Kothori, Chosen Reservoir and a member of the Chosin Few. Highly decorated Sgt Hampton was awarded two Purple Heart Medals, Gold Star for Second Award, three Presidential Unit Citations, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, 6 Battle Stars, two Republic of Korea President Unit Citations and the United Nations Service Medal. A member of the Marine Corps League, the First Marine Division, the American Legion Post 175, VFW Post 6640 and was honored as Marine of the Year at Jesuit High School November 1998. Services will be held at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., N.O., LA on Saturday, March 3, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Mass in Chapel. Interment Greenwood Cemetery.
